We grieve with all those who have been affected by the devastating fires in the North Bay. Many of us have friends who have been impacted by this disaster and we yearn to assist in some way. The impulse to help is the right one - many of our kids are also asking for ways that we can lend a hand.  As a church community that embodies the love and mercy of God we want to reach out to those in need so here are four practical ways that you can help:

PRAY
This Sunday, each of our pastors will be leading a prayer that will invite you into your own prayers and reflections as we ask for God’s steady peace and abounding mercy. We will pray over the firefighters and first responders and the many people and families now homeless given the devastation.

DONATE
Also on Sunday, at all Christ Church worship services, we will be collecting items to help those affected by the fires. So whether it's a family trip to Target or to your pantry and closet, everything helps:

  • New or gently-used bedding: blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, air mattresses, ear plugs

  • Food items: water bottles, ziplock bags, baby food, nonperishable foods (easy to eat snacks, bars, dried fruit, crackers)

  • Toiletries (new): toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, hairbrush, hair ties, body soap, shampoo, lotion, hand sanitizer

  • New or gently-used clothing: socks (new), underwear (new), sweatshirts, kids pajamas

  • Other items: gift cards, backpacks, water bottles, small coolers, first aid kits, diapers, wipes, kids games, crayons, coloring books, notebooks

All donations will go to evacuation centers and churches in Sonoma County.

SHELTER
If you have a spare room that you can open to someone in need, AirBnB is coordinating that effort:

GIVE
Here are links to a just a few of the organizations who are accepting donations that will benefit those who are affected by the fires.

In addition, over the coming weeks, we will be in touch with the relief/care efforts being provided by various churches in the area to see where we can further be of assistance. We want to respond in all these ways, knowing that the God of love and mercy is already working to alleviate the pain, fear, and heartache that many are experiencing. Thank you for your generous response!

Prayerfully,

The Pastors of Christ Church
