Minister
Every couple who wants a Christ Church pastor to officiate needs to go through the following process:
-
Qualifying Session - Meet with the pastor for a "qualifying session" in which the pastor will decide whether he or she can officiate. Please fill out the Qualifying Session Worksheet (PDF).
-
Pre-Marital Counseling - If the pastor is able and willing to officiate, then premarital counseling is scheduled.
-
Wedding Minister Agreement - We ask each couple to sign and return a Wedding Minister Agreement which informs you in more detail of the wedding process and lists the specific fees associated with your wedding ceremony. This agreement ensures we are all agreeing to the same thing. Please read a generic version of the Wedding Minister Agreement (PDF).
Please email a pastor the schedule your qualifying session.
Pre-Marital Counseling
The opening statement of the wedding service states, “Marriage is not to be entered into unadvised or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God.”
Because of this conviction, pre-marital counseling is required of all couples who desire to be married by a pastor at Christ Church. A minimum of three pre-marital counseling sessions will be required before the wedding and then a fourth meeting where the practical details of the wedding are discussed. We also ask each couple to take a pre-marriage course with a mentor couple in their Parish.
During pre-marital counseling, you will be asked to work through the following resources:
In addition to pre-marital counseling, Christ Church hosts occasional discussion groups or seminars for those nearly married and newly married. The discussions are oriented around a few books or DVDs:
