Church Training Center

The Christ Church Training Center hosts one to two year pastoral internships and residencies that provide hands-on experience, immersive learning and mentorship with experienced pastors and planters in our Bay Area network.

How It Works

  • During the program, interns and residents work closely with the Christ Church pastoral staff at one of our three locations, in our church plants and in partnering churches.

  • Once a year, interns and residents may join other pastors and planters from all over the country at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church national church-planting conference.

  • The program balances pastoral experiences with learning opportunities that help participants cultivate health in three key areas.

(1) Personal Life

  • A Rule of Life

  • Marriage and Family or Singleness

  • Self Awareness (Strengths & Struggles)

(2) Pastoral Vocation

  • Sacramental Worship

  • Biblical and Theological Reflection

  • Preaching and Teaching

  • Counseling and Care

  • Evangelism and Discipleship

  • Developing and Training Leaders

  • Organizational Leadership

  • Ordination Preparation (if applicable)

(3) Planting Skills (for Church Planting Residents)

  • Discernment of Call

  • Entrepreneurial Leadership Development

  • Administrative Capacity

  • Vision Development

  • Missional Contextualization

  • Development of Church Planting Prospectus

  • Financial Development and Fundraising

Who Should Apply

Both programs are intended to equip pastors and planters interested in long-term service in the Bay Area. However, any prospective pastor or planter who meets the following requirements is encouraged to apply.

  • Internship: Open to applicants who haven't yet started seminary, are in seminary, or have completed seminary.

  • Residency: Must have a seminary degree or alternative approved by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
