A Light Has Come: Lessons in the Gospel of John

Good news seems rare in a world where shadows seem to overwhelm us and cloud our vision of reality. The Gospel of John is good news that shines as a light into the shadows—both in our world and our individual lives. John begins with a captivating proclamation, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). Jesus is that light. John shows us that Jesus’s mission was to enter into the dark and difficult places to shine life-giving light. Light and life for those who are hurting in mind and body, for those spiritually lost, for the lonely and outcast, for those overwhelmed with guilt or shame, and for those enslaved to the false gods of money, sex, and power. Jesus is the light of the world, his light reveals what is most true about us, our world, and our God.
