Christians worship a God defined by self-giving love. At Christ Church, we seek to emulate that love in practical ways that strengthen and heal relationships and seek the wellbeing of Berkeley, Oakland and Lafayette.

Loving Our Communities: Project Peace

We created Project Peace to bring together local churches, businesses, and social service providers to foster just and sustainable communities in the east Bay Area.

How It Works

Through regular Days of Service, Project Peace connects volunteers to schools and other sites in our communities. We’ve painted murals, cleaned school lockers, picked up trash, weeded a regional shoreline and much more.

  • Contact to learn more.
  • Several Saturdays a year, 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Most sites support volunteering as a family.
  • Sites occasionally require specific skills, but usually what we need are people willing to help out for three hours.

Our Impact

Since 2007, Project Peace has been a catalyst for change at local schools, homeless shelters, mentoring programs, and other social service providers. We began with just one church and engaged 100 volunteers to serve a total of 300 hours. In 2014, we partnered with 10 churches, engaged 1,500 volunteers, and served a combined 4,500 hours! By 2020, we want to increase this number by a factor of 10 to better serve our cities.

Loving our World: Global Outreach

At Christ Church, we believe we are part of the larger global church. We pray for and/or financially support members of Christ Church who are engaged in strategic global initiatives, new church developments and indigenous churches in global cities, and university ministries in global cities. If you would like to know more about our Global Outreach ministry, please email Lina Aoyama and Laura Ho at

Serving Each Other

There are many ways to help at Christ Church. Most teams rotate volunteers over several weeks, to balance the load and prevent burnout. Volunteers typically support the location where they worship. To learn more or volunteer, contact the team leader listed.

Serve on Sunday

Hospitality - BerkeleyOaklandLafayette

Create a warm, hospitable atmosphere at our church by providing refreshments after the worship service each week, the food for newcomer meals, and food for other church events.

Make Sunday service attendees feel welcome. These volunteers help with setup, greeting and post-service cleaning at our three locations.

Welcome - BerkeleyOaklandLafayette

Welcome newcomers via greeting before worship, ushering during the first 20 minutes of worship, hosting the Welcome Table after worship, and following up with people on the Online Community Network to ensure that they get connected into a parish.

Worship Guild - BerkeleyOaklandLafayette

Support our Sunday worship services by reading Scripture, leading corporate prayer and serving Communion.
